Early Language Comprehension Individualized Instruction (ELCII)

ELCII is an intervention designed to improve reading comprehension by developing inference making for all students in kindergarten across a suggested 10-week period. It is a Tier I (MTSS framework) preventative tool intended to supplement core instruction.

ELCII is unique because it does not rely on decoding skills. It includes a series of video-based lessons delivered via an interactive, cloud-based software application and scripted book read-alouds.

In ELCII, Kindergarten students:

  • View age-appropriate (20 nonfiction) videos
  • Learn key academic vocabulary words
  • Respond (by touch screen selections) to inferential questions with scaffolding or feedback
  • Receive whole-class optional read-aloud lessons
